The One With The Pain

I was recently attending a party when one of the other guests learned that I was a coach. Without much hesitation or coaxing and after a quick introduction, this gentleman went on to share with me the fact that his 30 year old daughter has been struggling with her career and most aspects of her life.  At the conclusion of his telling of her story, he then asked if I could take her on as a client.

I noted that I would love to help, but it’s the one with the pain that must take the action.  In other words, as well meaning as her father was I could not be of any help until his daughter recognized that she is in “pain” and wants to do something about it.  Until then, no amount of pushing (by parents, friends or others) or hoping is going to have any meaningful impact.

Keep that in mind when seeking to help others.

Do Something Special For Someone Else

Here’s a great way to get 2012 rolling in your favor—-do something special for someone else.  Yep, it’s that simple.  Help a family member or a friend or a neighbor.  It doesn’t matter what it is or how big it is or how long it takes.  When you do for someone else, good things are bound to come back at you.

Success Is How You Define It

I’m often asked “what is the definition of success?” or “how can I be successful?”  In truth, there is no one answer or preferred choice.  I believe that the real beauty of “success” is that it can be whatever you wish it to be with no explanations or apologies required.   If you can define it, then you can seek to achieve it.    Success is really a large bucket that contains many small, but meaningful accomplishments.

Do Yourself A Favor

As a new year is about to begin, I’d like to suggest that you do yourself a favor a find someone that you can confide in.  We all need to talk to someone and that “special someone” should be a person that you can trust, has your best interests in mind, is a good listener, is non-judgmental and will not necessarily tell you want you want to hear, but what you may need to hear.

If you’re lucky enough to find a special person, you will have found one of the keys to long-lasting personal and professional success.  So get going and start searching!!

Don’t Think You Can Afford a Coach—Think Again!

Many people can benefit from the services of a coach, but hesitate to take any action because they believe it’s too expensive.  Well, how does having your own coach for six months at a cost of less than $18.00 a day sound to you?  Not too expensive given the results that could be gained—wouldn’t you agree?

If interested in learning more, feel free to check out my website (www.thetravidgroup.com) and my Linked-In profile (John J. Meggiolaro/Recommendations).  Your long-wanted desire to have your own coach for six months at a reasonable cost is easier to do than you might have thought.

It’s Up To You!

Many of my clients are quick to praise me for helping them achieve the success that they were seeking.  The truth is that my role was but a small part.  The real difference and determining factor was the individual’s willingness to actively do what was needed to move to the next level.  So while a coach can certainly help guide you to where you’d like to go, it is really up to you to make it happen.

What’s The Biggest Issue You Are Facing?

My clients come to me for a variety of reasons.  Some wish to move their career forward, some are disappointed with where their life has taken them, some are doing extremely well and want to ramp it up and still others are seeking some basic balance in their life. No matter why they contact me, each individual came to me as a result of one issue that seemed to overwhelm them.

So I was wondering—–what is the biggest issue you are facing?  And what have you done about it?

IT’S YOUR CHOICE

Every morning when you wake up you have a choice—–that is to be happy and positive or sad and negative.  The choice is yours.  No person or organization can dictate that choice.  It’s totally within your realm of control and whichever way you decide will have a lasting impact on your results and ultimately your success for that day and possibly even into the future.

Sounds rather simple and trite, huh?  Well think about it for a moment and then do yourself a favor tomorrow morning.  Get up out of bed, put a smile on your face and tell yourself that nothing that happens today is going to get you down or cause you to think any less about yourself.  It costs nothing and can yield unbelievable outcomes.

The Ideal Client

Recently, I was asked what are the qualities or characteristics of an ideal client. Interesting question since I often ask potential clients “what qualities are you seeking in a coach?” So after a bit of a pause, I shared that foremost for me is to have a client that has expressed the desire to become a new person—both in the way he or she thinks and acts.  Next would be that this individual seeks and embraces an open and honest relationship; one built on communication and trust. Finally, the ideal client would display an unyielding commitment to take whatever steps or actions are required to move himself/herself to that next level. I have to believe that to obtain success from any coaching experience, the client must have at least two of these qualities.  Having all three is wonderful, having just one could cause some difficulty in fully achieving the desired outcomes of both client and coach. What is the profile of your ideal client?

Are Corporations Missing The Boat?

Coming from the corporate world, I often wonder why more corporations aren’t providing coaching to their employees in a manner similar to other types of professional development (e.g., management training).  Could it be the perceived cost?

Could it be a lack of understanding as to what coaching is?  Could it be there is confusion between coaching and mentoring?  Whatever the reason or reasons, the lack of a coaching component as part of the professional developmental process could potentially stall, at best, and make moot, at worst, all that was gained on the training and development side of the ledger.  So, how do we change this mindset?
